Overview

‘HoroCaliber’ (or Horological Caliber) is an educational iOS application for watch enthusiasts and collectors that take an interest in what sits inside the case as the heart and brains of every timekeeping instrument.

The application consists of two independent modules:

  1. Reference Caliber Library
  2. Watch Collection Notebook

Caliber Library

The ‘Library’ module consists of a database of some of the most common movement manufacturers in the world of horology, along with their breakdown of calibers and respective specifications.

ETA

ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse (ETA SA Swiss Watch Manufacturer) designs and manufactures quartz mechanical and Swatch watch movements. Headquartered in Grenchen (Solothurn), Switzerland the company is the motorist of time at the heart of the Swatch Group.

ETERNA

Eterna S.A. is a Swiss watch manufacturer established in 1856  in Grenchen, Switzerland by Josef Girard and Urs Schild.

Eterna is now owned by Hong Kong-based Citychamp Watch & Jewelry Group Limited (formerly known as China Haidian Holdings).

ISA

ISASWISS designs, develops and manufactures quartz movements.

ISASWISS’s line of movements is currently composed of 6 different families. From economic movements of the ISAQUARTZ family, up to the newer analogies and digitals synchronized movements of the ISADIGIT family.

First established under the name FABRIQUE D’EBAUCHES de SONCEBOZ and manufacturing mechanical watch movements, the turn to quartz movements took place in 1980.

The ISA group focused on the production of economical 6.75”’ quartz calibers in large quantities up to 2005. In 2006 the group becomes known as ISASWISS WATCH MECHANISMS and switches its focus to the production of complex quartz movements.

MIYOTA

Miyota was established in 1959 as a Japanese watch movement manufacturer and is now a subsidiary of Citizen Watch Co.

Born in 1981, the Cal. 2035 is Miyota’s signature model, recording a cumulative production of 1.7 billion by 1999 and 3.5 billion by 2005. All main parts are made of metal and manufactured at Miyota factories in Japan.

RONDA

Ronda AG is a Swiss manufacturer of quartz and mechanical watch movements. The company was founded in 1946 by William Mosset and is headquartered in Lausen (Basel-Landschaft), Switzerland.

It was at Baselworld 2016 that Ronda announced their re-entry into the mechanical movement business with the new R150 “Mecano” movement.

SELLITA

Sellita is a Swiss movement manufacturer established in 1950 in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Neuchatel), Switzerland.

Originally a contractor to the Swatch Group giant, producing parts and movements under license, Sellita began producing their own movements in 2003.

SOPROD

Soprod SA Les Reussilles was founded in 1966 in Tramelan (Bern), Switzerland to produce mechanical watch movements.

Today, Soprod is the corporate parent within the Festina Group that produces Swiss watch components.

VALANVRON

Valanvron is a manufacturer of Swiss watch movements, mostly based on Sea-Gull ebauches from China. Their products qualify as Swiss Made based on local content and labor.

Watch Collection

The ’Collection’ module allows the user to build their own private watch collection library, while noting key features at the individual watch-level such as movement manufacturer/model, battery reference, in addition to other watch-related comments/notes (i.e. last time battery changed or work done on watch).
